The Tudors is an Emmy Award-nominated television series that examines the early reign of Henry VIII, with Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the lead role. The series was produced by Peace Arch Entertainment for Showtime in association with Reveille Eire (Ireland), Working Title Films and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The first two episodes debuted before the series premiere on DirecTV, Time Warner Cable OnDemand, Netflix, Verizon FiOS On Demand, Internet Movie Database and on the series website. The series formally debuted on Showtime on April 1, 2007 with the highest rated Showtime series debut in three years. As of April 2007, the show has been renewed for a second season, and in that month the BBC announced it had acquired exclusive UK broadcast rights for the series, and intends to show it in autumn 2007. The series is filmed in Ireland.
